Who is Edith and Why Is She Desperate?

Two years ago, I started to wonder why I was always crafting alone. Don’t get me wrong, I loves me some solitary craftin’. But still, I wondered what ever happened to the good old days of sewing circles and bake sales. You know, those days when folks got together to make, share stories, share tips and laugh. Turned out, my friends also were desperate to make things together.

It started out innocently enough: a few gals getting together to unlock the secrets of homemade ricotta, a group lesson on making a sewing pattern out of an existing garment, knitting while watching a movie and drinking some wine. And it was really FUN to craft with other people. There, around my dining room table in Denver, Colorado, Desperate Edith’s Society of Craft was born.

Desperate Edith’s turned into an awesome group of crafters who would meet at a bar and [get this] bring their sewing machines, knit hats for our troops and generally get into some crafting mayhem. It was rad. The Denver fun had to end when I moved to Atlanta in August with my amazing new husband, for his amazing job opportunity.

So here I am in Atlanta and I’m DESPERATE. And after some consideration (and a chance meeting with an amazingly crafty Atlantan), I’ve decided to get this little society up and running, but this time with a Southern flair. I hope you’ll join me.

Check back here, often, for crafts, tips, pattern and product reviews and most importantly, EVENTS. That’s right, ladies and gents, there will be some crafting happening soon. You can also find Edith on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DesperateEdith. I can’t wait; this is gonna be great.

I hope to see you ‘round soon.

So, who is Edith?

Well, the first rule of Desperate Edith’s is that we don’t talk about Edith. But know that she was a sassy broad who could make a rug out of used panty hose. She was amazing.
